Tutorials for Long Docs

Have a project that appears it will fall under the category
of a long document. This is a manual that will have at
least 10 chapters, TOC and a number of Appendicies. There
is a team of four people that will be collaborating on this
project and I think it would be better to split the
document into separate chapters to make life easy.

Need to learn the best way to make this work without too
much pain for the editors.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is no really good way because your four authors will inevitably have
diverse but equally execrable work habits that will result in your getting
back a pile of garbage. You can reduce the pain somewhat by creating a
template with specific styles for each needed type of formatting, especially
headings and body text. If you include a toolbar with these styles on it,
the authors might be more likely to actually use them. Detailed written
instructions might also help. Ultimately, though, it will probably be
necessary to strip all formatting from the files you get back from them and
start from scratch with style tagging. This is best done after combining the
individual parts into a single document.
