How do I split a page straight down the middle into two equal columns?

What about quarter sheet? four equal quadrants?

Office 2004 Mac OS X.

Various ways--a table, the Format | Columns feature, printing 2-up....
What's the ultimate goal here?

Ok on a blank doc I did format | columns and selected 2 columns with
show line between. Clicked ok. The line did not show up. Why?

In my test, the line only shows up after you have enough text to fill
two columns. Paste in some temporary text and see what happens.

What type of document are you creating? Format | Columns may not be the
best method.
