Two configurations for Office ?

Is it possible to have two different configurations for an Office app, with
two different shortcuts to launch them?

To put things as simply as possible:

I use Word and Excel without hardly any customization. OTOH, my wife uses
lots of toolbars and hence needs the document to appear on the screen in
very small fonts. So, would it be possible to have one shortcut for "my"
Excel (like straight out of the box) and another one for "hers", with all of
her customizations?

Hi Daniel,

The best answer to that is Windows XP. It allows for multiple users
and profiles on the same computer. When you log in you get your
customizations and preferences and when she logs in she gets hers.

Without Windows XP then the easiest way to get what you want is to
create a couple macros that you can run to switch to your various
preferences:

- Set up Excel using your preferences (not your wife's)
- Go to Tools/Macro/Record New Macro
- Make sure you save the macro in Personal.xls (there is a drop down
for Store Macro In)
- Assign a keyboard shortcut to run the macro
- 'Record' the customizations for your wife
- Click the "Stop Recording" command on the Macro toolbar that will
appear when you start recording

Record another macro that sets her preferences back to yours.

Then it's just a matter of utilizing the keyboard shortcuts to switch
preferences.

Another option would be to create a Desktop shortcut for Excel which
starts Excel in Safe mode. However Safe mode is more for
troubleshooting problems and will start Excel will all defaults. Any
customizations you make will not be saved.

If interested in that option:
- Create a shortcut to Excel.exe
- Right-click the shortcut and select Properties
- Select the Shortcut tab if necessary
- Add the end of the Target path, outside the quotes, add a space and
/s

It would look something like:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /s

For Word it's basically the same but make sure the macros are stored
in the Normal.dot. For the Desktop shortcut use /a instead of /s.

If you need more information just let us know. :)
