Two Copies of Word on Computer/Takes Forever to Load

Hello...

I have MS Office 2000. When I got a new Dell computer, it came with MS Works
(which includes Word 2002). I installed MS Office on the new machine so now
I seem to have two copies of Word -- 2000 and 2002. I'm sure I don't need
both -- and I'm wondering if that's why when I try to open something in Word
it invariably says "preparing to install" and then takes a full minute to
come up. It is very annoying! I don't really know how to separate MS 2000
from the rest of Office in the Add/Remove programs.

Should I uninstall Office and re-install using the custom/selective install
and leave off Word?

What's your advice?

Thanks in advance...

Gail, you don't need the MS office 2000 on your machine in addition
to Word 2002. I would suggest that you un-install Office 2000, or if
you need components of 2000, un-install Word. You do this through
Control Panel...Install or Uninstall programs.
