Two meeting invites being sent out when I update meeting invite

I updated the entire series to a reoccuring meeting which was sent to 10
attendees commencing on the 18 March and occuring monthly. This resulted in
each attendee receiving two meeting invite update emails one for the 18th
March and one for the series, to which they accepted both emails.
How can this be stopped so only they receive one email when I update the
series. This has also happened on some occasions when I send out an update
to a single occurrence within a series duplicate meeting invite email updates
is sent to the attendee.
