Two versions of same file

R

Richard Champlin

Why do I get two versions of the same Excel file (xls:1 and xls:2)? How do I
change it back to a normal (without version extension numbers) Excel file?

Richard,

You have two windows open on that file. Click the X on one, then save the file, close it, and
reopen, and it should be fine.

You haven't got two versions of the file, you have two windows open.
Close one of the windows (by clicking on the x in the top right hand corner
of that window, not the one in the top right-hand corner of Excel itself)
then save the file. Next time you open the file, only one window will be
open.

I like to select the window that I don't want and then hit ctrl-w to close it.

Then save the file.
