type 1 error message in Word 98 with OS 9

I have been unable to cut or copy in MS Word (from Office 98). I'm working
with OS 9 on a Mac PowerBook. Each time I try to cut or paste the program
quits and I get a Type 1 error message. I have tried turning off quicksaves
in the preferences menu but it doesn't help. I've also increased the
application's memory and have turned on virtual memory but I'm still getting
the same error.

Hi Beth,

Yes, it was the preferred memory that I increased from 9000 to 12000. I
checked out the link that you gave me but I'm still having the same problem
and now some of my files are becoming corrupted. I'm at a loss!!??

12000 is pretty low for Word. See the link Beth gave you, scroll down to
the Memory heading. Word 2001 is happier with 48000, though Word 98 should
not need as much.

Hi Lynda,

In addition to what Daiya said, I would try upping the Preferred memory to
20000K. If that doesn't work, try 48,000K (providing that you have enough
RAM).

Otherwise, what is in these documents? Are you trying to cut and paste
simple text? Or does it have to do with tables or graphics?

In what way are the files becoming corrupt? Regardless, for the procedure
to "uncorrupt" a document, go back to

Hope this helps.
