Type a word once, repeat it many times

K

Kevin Lancaster

I am looking for a way to enter a line of text information into Word once,
such as a company name, and have it printed in various places throughout the
document.

Can anyone tell me how best to achieve this. I know that you can link to
document properties but I want the source information to be visible in the
document itself.

Thanks, Kevin

Hello Kevin,

Having typed the text once, bookmark it. Then, wherever you want that text
to appear, type Ctrl-F9 then type your bookmark's name between the braces
(eg {BkMrk}) and press F9 to update. What this does is to use a REF field to
duplicate the info. See Word's help file on fields for more details.

Using fields may be a little complicated for a novice
user. Here are two alternatives:

Probably a good idea would be to add an AutoText entry.
That way you'll only have to type the first few letters
and Word will suggest the rest. You press Enter and Word
fills in the rest.

You can also add an AutoCorrect entry. You can specify an
abbreviation that Word will automatically recognize and
fill in the full text string you require.

This is rather impractical if the text to be repeated is different in every
document.

Look up bookmarks, REF fields and online forms in Word's help. You may also
want to look at the ASK field.
