Hi everyone,

Is there any support for typing Vietnamese in Microsoft for Mac 2008? Thank you very much in advance =)...

Hi Hao Lo:

No.

Check again when the next version of Office for the Mac is announced:
there's a rumour that Vietnamese may be supported by that version. We shall
have to wait and see...

There is, of course, a small issue with "piracy" in Vietnam :) Until
Microsoft solves the piracy problem, they are unlikely to release products
for some Asian countries: they would only ever "sell" one copy :)

Cheers

Is there any reason you can't just select the Vietnamese keyboard
layout from OS X and type away in Word? This creates precomposed
Vietnamese and should work just fine (i.e. no problem with poorly
placed diacritics, etc).

But isn't there the problem of several dialectics in Vietnamese like
there is in Japanese and especially Chinese where there is a slightly
different version almost depending upon the province you live in.

not criticizing or being insulting - just asking a simple question.

I have a friend That married an Austrian girl when they were young.
(they are now in their 80's) she say in Austria when she was growing up
there were two form of German spoken in Austria. Regular Street German
That regular works, shopkeepers and the like spoke.

Then there was *High German* government officials Dignitaries, and rich
people spoke. She was able to Translate both into English.

Absolutely, I don't really see what the problem is either.
I just made the test and as long as you have fonts with all the
Vietnamese characters you need, it seems to be working just fine.

John must have it confused with languages requiring right-to-left
support (Arabic, Hebrew...).

That would be for spelling and grammar in VIetnamese (which aren't
supported anyway). Not for writing in Vietnamese,

Firstly, thanks you all for these informative replies =). I just figured out the way to type VNamese in Microsoft for Mac 2008 after selecting a few options in International system preference... I am a Mac newbie so I guess it will take me sometime to get used to the new OS (but the feeling of being able to figure out something new is great :D).

Actually, I was being "too literal" in my interpretation of the question :)

A sin for which I am constantly berating others {Blush}

I interpreted "support for typing in Vietnamese" as meaning "Spelling and
grammar checking", so I answered "No" because there isn't any.

Fortunately, others are wider-awake and realised that all the gentleman
required was to type the stuff: he can actually spell himself!

Sorry about that...
