typefaces and templates

P

Peter B7

i am currently working on word 2000

if i have created a template that uses a particular typeface that is
not a typical system font and i send the template to a user who does
not have that typeface on their computer then the template will
default to using a system font

but is there any way i can specify which system font the template
defaults too? for example if i want it to switch to arial rather than
courier

thanks for the help

Hi Peter:

In Word 2000 yes, you can specify to "Embed the font" in the template or
document.

But you are posting in a group dedicated to Word for Macintosh. The Mac
does not support font embedding.

You *can* control which font gets substituted, but only by visiting each
user's machine and setting up their Font Substitution in their Compatibility
Options. This is a per-document property, so you have to do it for each
document.

It would be better to make a macro in the template that checks for the
presence of the required font on the user's machine, and installs it from a
network location if it is not found. That will work on both the PC and the
Mac.

Cheers
