Types are locked cannot start the document

[Application Error cannot type a document]

When I open a document and start typing, not a single letter is printed. The
message appears at the bottom of the screen "Document is locked". Hence I
cannot operate Microsoft Word 2003 for writing letter or document. It is not
a spelling or phrase problem. I cannot proceed with any typing. Please
help.
