Typing a file name it jumps to the file

When you click on File, then open, it opens the look in folder, or you select
the folder to look in, anyway, when I used to type in a File Name, it would
atomatically scroll over the file. Like this I would type 't' and the pane
would scroll to the files starting with T, then I could type 'ti' and it
would jump to the file with the first two letters Ti. Can you tell me what
does this and how to turn it back on? For some reason it has turned that
function off. Any Help would be appreciated.
