Typing Chinese pinyin in Word

I have MS Word 2003 as part of MS Small Businees Edition 2003. I bought and
installed Proofing Tools. I set the setting to Chinese (PRC) on the Language
Bar but when I type, the setting gets changed to English (US) on teh task
bar. That is, on typing pinyin, I do not get a list of characters, I just
get English text.

Same settings, same installation on a different computer - I can type. I
have installed the Chinese language support.

Hi AA,

Can it be that you have defined more than one language plus keyboard layout
on your computer?
Choose Start | Settings > Control Panel | Regional Options | tab Languages |
Details... (or something like this - since I use a Dutch version of Windows
XP, the exact terms here may differ a little)
Remove _any_ language/keyboard layout combination except the one you prefer.
