Typing ctrl+alt+l in Polish version of onenote does not work

P

Pepe

Hi,

I have a problem with typing one Polish letter in onenote (Polish edition).
It's should be typed with ctrl+alt+l (or right alt+l) but it does not work.
No action at all.

I've googled a lot but found no solution so far. I reinstalled twice Office
12. No luck. I would appreciate any suggestions how to solve the problem.

Best regards,
Piotr

We've seen this problem occasionally. This is usually due to some other
app registering ctrl+alt+l as a system-wide hotkey, blocking out OneNote
in the process. Could you double check that you do not have any other
applications or utilities installed that use this key combination,
particularly applets installed by the computer manufacturer?

It's quite hard to check it manually. I use Toshiba M200. Is there any place
in registry where I could look for it?

Unfortunately it's not quite as simple as checking in the registry. Any
app can call the hotkey registration API at any time, so you really do
need to check every running app. A good place to start is the icons in
the system tray - make sure that the only icons showing up there are for
programs you need and know what they do. If you need more help finding
out exactly what is running on your system you could also try the
Windows discussion group.

I killed every process coming not from MS. I killed every process not
necessary to run windows. I only left lets call it "core" components. Still
ctrl+alt+l did not work.

I think if it's a hotkey problem then it would show up in every application
I run. But it only shows up in Onenote. I can use it ctrl+alt+l in Outlook,
Word, notepad and so on.

Do you have any other suggestions?

I think I may have misread your original question. Are you trying to
type a letter, or lock all password protected sections? If you're just
trying to type a letter, that could be an unfortunate key assignment to
the "lock all" feature (ctrl+alt+l by default, which works quite well in
English, but may need to be changed in Polish).
If you're trying to lock protected sections: It could be a localization
bug. Try the other keys in combination with ctrl+alt to see if one of
them does what you want. If that works, please post where in the UI it
says ctrl+alt+l, and what key combination performs that function instead.

I want to type a letter (local character) which is executed with ctrl+alt+l
or right alt+l. There are other local characters that work fine: ctrl+alt+s ,
ctrl+alt+n and so on. Is there a way do disable this hotkey asigment - "lock
all" feature ?

Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to disable the key assignment. Does
typing it with rightalt+l not work as well?
You can also log it as a bug on http://connect.microsoft.com/onenote to
make sure it is properly addressed in the next version or service pack.
