Typing email addresses and URLs in Word

H

harlemnocturn

Another feature I took for granted stopped working. In text, email addresses
were always underlined in blue, URLs in red, and color signified that they
were active links. How I get brackets, the words HYPERLINK and mailto:. Why
and how do I change it back?

You seem to have unchecked the hyperlinks options. Try this:

a). On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the AutoFormat
As You Type tab.

b). Under Replace as you type, select or clear the Internet and network paths
with hyperlinks check box.

Thanks for getting back. Your suggestions only get rid of the HYPERLINK.
They do not restore the email addresses so that they change color after they
are typed so that the reader can click on them.

Ar you typing mailto:[email protected]?

I am not typing it that way; in other words, it was being inserted that way.
In fact Word is even changing the format in older documents.

Then check your auto-correct options in Word. If I understand what you are
saying, you want to type (e-mail address removed) and have it turn into a
mailto: link, correct?

Right, except I just want to restore the setting to where the email address
turns blue. I do not want to insert the words HYPERLINK or mailto. In
autocorrect I can only do that, or just type it in plain text. What are my
settings suppose to look like?

What mail format and message editor are you using in what version of
Outlook?

I have been assuming that everyone knew I was posting about a Word feature,
not Outlook. Forgive me, but the problem is in Word 2002, Office XP Small
Business Edition. I hope this clarifies things.
