Typing Freezes in word X

D

Dennis Herrick

I've got a new PowerBook G4 (1 ghz., 10.2.8) Whenever I use Word X, it
periodically freezes and the typing stops. If I keep typing , eventually it
all shows up. This happens every minute or so, making it extremely
frustrating to use. I don't do much typing in other programs, but the ONLY
program this has happened in is Word.

Any suygestions?

It was worse in the old days. Have you applied all the updates?

I still get it a bit, especially after changing the style on an early
paragraph in a long document. When Word wanders off to repaginate, it
forgets to echo your typing. You can minimise the effect by avoiding
page view. I actually like page view (well,... it is less sucky than
normal view, the only other view that is not hopelessly dysfunctional),
and have learned to trust Word to eventually echo my keystrokes.

Not sure, I'll check right away.

I'm generally in a one or two page document.... Nothing special, I'd
think...

and have learned to trust Word to eventually echo my keystrokes.

That's exactly my problem.... Eventually it does echo the wrong keystrokes.
It always seems to happen when I think I've typed something wrong, and I
have to wait and see....

Today for the first time I used Word with the power adapter plugged in
because the battery was very low. I didn't even notice that it happened
today.

Is this something that is more common on battery??

That's Murphy's law for you.

It could have a tiny effect if your energy saver is set for reduced or
automatic or maximum battery life. The processor will run slightly
slower, and take longer to repaginate, but you would want to have an
atomic clock in your brain to notice ;-)

The best workaround is to set the view to normal.
