Typing lags on screen

Using Outlook 2002, XP, SP2. When I am typing emails the letters appear on
the screen fractions of a second after I have typed them. Very
disconcerting. Seems to have started recently. Sometimes the lag is as
much as being two or three letters behind my typing. Any suggestions out
there? All will be appreciated. And BTW I am not a fast typist. TIA,
