Typing problem

Word 2002, Win XP SP-2

I can't open a new document and start typing. When the blank document opens,
the curser blinks once at the paragraph mark and disappears. Before I can
type, I must first click with the mouse.

I've been using word for some time and this annoyance has just started out
of the blue. I have not made any recent customizations to Word. When I open
Normal.dot to check the template, the curser is blinking normally, as it
should be.

I have recently created auto run macros in Excel worksheets. I assume there
should be no connection, but since Word and Excel are part of the same
program Microsoft Office, I wonder..?

It depends where you put and what you called your macros. From the symptoms,
it is obvious that something else is stealing the focus: this is usually a
third party add-in or a dialog box is open somewhere.
