U R G E N T - WHY IN THE HELL IS FP 2002 SUDDENLY GHOSTING BODY CONTENTS?

Hello Friend,

Here is a real puzzler! Suddenly, out of know where, FP 2002 starts to
duplicate what ever I do within the body of building a new page by mirroring
what I have done outside of the main body of the page found at the very
bottom, and all of what use to be at the bottom of the page is now gone!
However, it all looks perfectully fine at first as this only happens when I
publish the new page, where as this was never a problem. I even rebooted my
computer twice, still no luck. Rebuilt the page twice (see links) still no
luck! WHAT IN THE HELL is going on here? Does anyone have a clue? I use FTP
as always.

to help us here with FP. I always thought it was people like me helping
other people any way we could if we had the answers someone was looking for.

At first glance, I would say that the FPextensions on the server have
developed a bug. However, since you use FTP and the server does not have FP
extensions.....

Do you edit the web locally using a Disc Based web or Server based?
If server based, does the sever have FP extensions installed?
If so,
There are some bugs in FP & in the FP2002 SE related to shared borders &
include pages
so make sure you see & apply all appropriate patches from:

Usually in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache

3) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

FP will not build your bottom shared border because it probably is unable to create a valid set of tables from your html
- either your pages or the bottom.htm html are invalid (missing closing tag pairs, etc) preventing FP from building the tables

Shared borders and Include Pages are design time tools w/ the content (inside the <BODY> tags) of the Shared Border or Include page
"embedded" or included as html in your pages when you save any of the file(s) using them (or save the borders / include pages
themselves)

FP converts your page(s) to a series of tables to include the Shared borders, (which are really just a special case of Include
pages)
But FP can not build those tables if either your shared border page content or main page content has illegal html or broken tag
pairs
- usually due to missing </body></html> tags, or unmatched table / cell tags (unclosed table / cell tags), or some other unclosed
html block element

If you can see them using File Preview in Browser they will publish in as part of your pages

If you can't see them using File Preview in Browser, it's because FP can not build the included content tables, so you need to
validate and correct your broken html

I doubt any user will bother to scroll thru your "mile" long pages or the even longer bottom.htm content
- and some search engines might "see" them as an attempt to "stuff" the page content for higher ratings (and lower your rating)

Do you have the Service Packs installed? FP2K was shipped with this problem and was later corrected by Service Pack.

There are some bugs in FP2002 & the FP2002 SE

Thank you for your quick response. I Think I know what happened and it may
very well be my own doing, not sure though.

Last December I upgraded this particular website that was built on FP 2000
to FP 2002. In the past with FP 2000 I would notice that when starting a new
site, FP 2000 would add htm pages that I was never going to use, so I would
simply delete them.

However, when I imported the same website into FP 2002, I noticed last night
that there was a brand new htm files that I had never seen before found
within the other some two hundred html files that make up the body of
website. Not giving much thought to it, I outright deleted it, (rather then
first renaming it, (adpage_old.htm) as to see if I would still need it) and
it was about then when the problem started for I uploaded a new page right
away when the problem started.

I think the file name was something like (adpage.htm) around 18k.

Whatever the actual file name was, my trashcan did not catch it, thus it's
really gone.

So, what was that file actually called (that is, if I have the name wrong)
and how can I restore it? You would think the FP 2002 program would
automatically restore it to my HD.

Mean while, I will look and see if I can find a back up copy on Yahoo.com
that I can view without having to commit it first.

Thank you for your very informative response. The file in the "Preview in
Browser" looks fine, it's only once it's upload to the site does the problem
arise. However, there is something funny going on with the bottom shared
border of the main page. So, based on what you have told me, I should get
the index.html page to work properly, as I highly suspect that FP can not
build those tables if either my shared border page content or main page
content has illegal html or broken tag pairs.

PS: adpage.htm was in fact a test page built by remote webmaster. Thus it
has nothing to do with FP shared border operation. However, possibly I still
deleted something that looked out of place.
