Program Error:
Outlook.exe has generated an error and will be closed by Windows.
After spending hours on the web searching for solutions for this vague
error message, I find that this seems to be an endless discussion topic
on the web. I would like to see if this can ever reach to an ending
point. Someone, please tell me this:
1) This is a bug and will not be resolved if you are using W2K and
Outlook 2000.
Therefore
2) The only solution is to tell the user: You will have to live with
it unless you get a new computer with Windows XP.
Well, this is my sad story:
A user showed me his problem:
He create a new message, then go to View > Options > check "Request a
read receipt of this message", then close this. He then opened the
receipt and the devil error pops up. Outlook closed afterward.
I have tried pretty much every possible solution/suggestion I could
find on the web:
1) Apply all available updates, both Windows and Office
2) http://support.microsoft.com/?id=297010
3) Remove all add-in and all check marks in Journal
4) Check and Repair Outlook
5) Reconfigure a mail profile
6) Remove Outlook
7) Remove Office
8) Check the integrity of the .pst file (a really desperate move, which
does not make any sense to e me at all, because I am using Exchange
2000)
9) Try to open the mail box on an different W2k box (on the terminal
server). It did not give me the error message but it crashed Outlook
without any error at all.
The only time it did not give me the error was when I open the mailbox
in a Windows XP box.
So, MVPs and Microsoft professionals, please help!!! If there is no
solution at all, at least someone can give me a suggestion or some
information: This is never going to work in a W2K environment.
Thanks a lot for your help.
