Unable to access the vba editor

R

Robert Holmes

Every time I try to access any vba code from any Office product, at least
the main ones, Word, Access, etc. I get the error message "unexpected error;
quitting", then "out of memory". I have over a Gig and a half of memory
available, so that is not the problem. I have spent the last couple of days
uninstalling, then reinstalling the products in various configurations, with
no help. The one thing that I can think of is that on this machine I
originally had the version of Office that I got from the launch event.
Although they claimed that it was the same as the release version I did have
another problem whenever I tried to install Visual Studio Tools for Office
when I would get the message that it would not install with a prerelease
version of Office. In the end I was able to extract the msi and install that
way. Recently I installed the Office that I got with my MSDN subscription.
Perhaps some of the 'prerelease' bits are gunking up the works.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Hi Robert,

From your description, I understand that you will get "unexpected error;
quitting", then "out of memory" error when you are trying to use VBA in
Office application.
And you have tried to reinstall the application.

Because office will copy enumerous files and do many registry related
stuff, it is hard to handle in the newsgroup. I suggest you try to contact
MSPSS directly.
http://support.microsoft.com
Also it seems more of an Office installation issue, I think you may try to
post in the newsgroup below.
microsoft.public.office.setup

Thanks for your understanding!

Best regards,

Peter,

You are clearly correct that installign office creates many entries in the
registry, files in numerous directories etc. I went through all that and in
the end searched the registry for any reference to Office or vbe, and
deleted them, then reinstalled Office. That cleared it up except that I had
then to also remove my Outlook profile and create another for that app to
work.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your quickly reply!
Generally we did not recommend customer edit the registry directly because
that may cause the system to halt.

Anyway, your approach is still a last approach to install a fresh version
although it is not recommend.
