Unable to activate my word 2003 through the help tab

I have been having a problem where all my office programs will not let me
edit existing documents or create new ones. I recieve a message at the bottom
of the word screen saying "This modification is not allowed because the
document is locked". I realise the solution to this is to activate the
software but apon clicking "Activate Product" in the help tab nothing at all
happens. I am running the full version of office and desparatly need it
working again as deadlines are close. Is there another way to activate,
ergent help needed for this issue.
