Unable to add custom field via project proffessional 2007

Hi,

I am trying to add some custom field via project proffessional 2007. So I
opened up a blank project and followed the process below;

Tools - Enterprise options - Enterprise Global

This opened up "Microsoft Project - Checked-out Enterprise Global" Page

Then I Clicked on Tools - Customised

But the Fields option is grayed out.

I have no idea why it is grayed out. Am I doing something wrong?

This option has change from the early version, now custom fields area added
from WA, or creatae a local curtom field and use from Project Pro and use
the button to convert-to-enterprise the local field.
Also see the documentation

You can either

Add Ent. Custom fields from PWA, System Settings, or

Open Proj Pro (connected to the server)
"Without" opening the Ent.Global file, simply customise the fields
Once customised, select "Add Field to Enterprise" option from the customise
field window.

I appreciate your feed back, Hernan. I know there is an option to add
enterprise custom field via PWA. But I should be able to add via project pro
too right? The reason I am trying to add is because I just wanted to follow
Microsoft document “Using VBA with Local Custom Fields and Outline Codesâ€

Well, Back to Paul’s reply, I still have a problem adding Project local
custom field via project pro.

As you advised, I Opened up new Project Pro plan (NOT Microsoft Project -
Checked-out Enterprise Global" Page) Tools - Customized - fields

E.G - if I Choose Resource option and select field type = Outline Code, it
gives a list Outline Code1, Outline Code2….... to choose. But if I choose
Project option and field type = Outline Code, it doesn’t give me list of
Outline Code1, Outline Code2….... , it just give me a list of enterprise
custom fields.

Any idea?

Is your user a member of a security group that has permissions to update
custom fields ?

Try clearing your local cache down.

If that doesn't work, I can't help sorry.

It's of no consellation, but it's working fine on my system.

Project Server 2007 allows you to add custom enterprise Task and Resource
fields from within Project Professional 2007, but it does NOT allow you to
add custom enterprise Project fields this way. It has nothing to do with
permissions. It's just the way the software works. You will need to create
custom enterprise Project fields using the PWA interface instead. Hope this
helps.
