Unable to apply service pack to office xp

I need help installing sp1 for Office XP pro. Everytime I
attempt to apply SP1 to Office XP professional it gets
about half way through and then gives me this
message: "Error 1328. Error applying patch to file
C:\Config.Msi\PT1DF.tmp. It has probably been updated by
other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch.
For more information contact your patch vendor." I have
never installed the patch before and this file appears to
be a temp file created by the patch installer. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

You probably have a warez version of Office XP. The
software sees a version number thtat is too low. Find
another version or update this version using an admin-
update.

This usually means you have installed some of the Microsoft
Windows "Recommended" Updates -- and the updates you
have installed from the Windows Update site include components
used by Microsoft Office.

Note: Windows Update installs the "MS Jet 4.0 - SP8" package
as a "Recommended" Security Update. MS Jet 4.0 is
*also* updated as part of SP1 -- but the version the SP1
updater tries to install is *older* than the SP8 package
installed by Windows Update.

As a result, you get the error message you describe.

One of the options given when you get this message is to
"Ignore" that particular sub-section of the SP1 update.

Use the "Ignore" button to bypass the install of the conflicting
sub-update section. The installer will continue on its merry
way and update the rest of the XP components as appropriate.

Note: O2K users will get the same whining when they update
to SP3. And for the same reason. Use the same
procedure as for OXP above to solve the problem.

Best I can do for now. <tm>

Bill:
I appreciate the attempt. The only problem is - IGNORE -
is NOT one of the options! All we get is -RETRY - and -
CANCEL-. Neither selection fixes the problem.
