Unable to change default font setting

I have a problem where my defualt font is showing times new W1 a scalable
printer font. When I go to change my default font settings to times new
roman, close and then re-open any document the times new w1 font is still set
as the default.

This is producing the wrong font on output, both onscreen and when printing.

When you change the font, are you pressing the DEFAULT button in the Font
dialog? Are you being prompted to save the global template when you close
Word?

Yes after clicking default I was prompted to save the global template when I
closed my word session. I selected to update the global template to ensure
the change.

Is the document using normal style? Is it based on Normal style? Are you
sure you only have one normal.dot? Note the date/Time normal.dot was last
saved. Changed the Font default again. Close Word and answer YES to the
global template change. Now look at normal.dot and see if it has the current
date/time.

This time when I attempted to make changes to th3e default font, I was not
prompted to make changes to the global template.

I had previously made changes to the systemp font setting to only show TT
fonts, but disabled that in order to run the test above. Between resetting
the TT font setting and modifying the default font, I re-booted my system to
ensure non-TT fonts were available to MS applications.

And it now works or not? Do you only have one normal.dot. What about its
date/time?

There were some temp locked files ~normal.dot files. These temp files were
being loaded and not the normal.dot file. Once I removed these files the W1
fonts disappeared as well as my template changes remaining permanent.
