Unable to control graphic pasted into Word document

It's the weirdest thing. When I past a graphic into a word document
(just my scanned signature from the scrapbook) I have the following
problems:

- The graphic is blank
- the handles don't respond, so I cannot manipulate the graphic
- when I double-click on the graphic, it doesn't open, so I can't work
on it from within Word.
I can see the graphic from print preview, and it prints ok.

I'm working on a Powerbook G4. Apple support couldn't help. Thank you!

Hi Cynthia,

Take a look at Preferences> View> Show> Image Placeholders. If it's
checked, uncheck it. Does that do it? If not, post back.
