Unable to create, edit, or open hyperlinks in Office 03

I'm having a problem, and it's effecting at least 3 apps that i'm
aware of... Outlook 03, Word 03, and FP 03. Normally when i type a web or
e-mail address in Outlook or Word it would automatically make it a hyperlink,
but now it treats it as plain text. In Outlook (using Word as my e-mail
editor) i highlighted the URL and clicked the hyperlink button and it
replaced the highlighted text with the following: "Error! Hyperlink
reference not valid." The hyperlink dialog box won't even open no matter how
i try to access it, so i am also unable to edit any existing hyperlinks. In
FrontPage it just does nothing... doesn't even replace the text. I can,
however, create a hyperlink by editing the code in FP... but that seems to be
the only way.

I have tried using the help feature for troubleshooting, but nothing happens
when i click the search result links.

However, i am wondering if maybe this could be caused by corrupt files or
something. I have tried repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling FrontPage
and Office. Nothing has worked. Could it be corrupt files in XP causing
this?

In Word, click on Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type |
check the "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" box | OK.

Thank you very much for your reply. The box for "Internet and network paths
with hyperlinks" was already checked.

I am very frustrated and don't really know where else to turn. My computer
came with XP already installed and the only disk is a recovery disk. I do
not want to start over.

Why does Microsoft allow retailers to install XP and not include an XP disk?
It just doesn't make any sense to me. It takes very little for a system
file to be corrupted or maybe accidentally deleted when uninstalling another
program. Not to mention the corruption caused by all the spyware and adware
that manage to penetrate the firewalls, virus software, spam blockers, and
popup blockers. And, no offense to the MS Tech Support team, but why don't
one of you at least try to help me? Please don't misunderstand... I can see
from watching these discussion groups that you are very busy and are doing
your best to help everyone you can, but if you ask me, that is all the more
reason for an XP disk to be included with my computer. At least then I could
attempt to reinstall the system files and troubleshoot and correct the
problem myself.

In all fairness, i really should have posted this in a Windows XP forum... if
there is one. It started out as an FP03 problem, then graduated to an Office
03 problem, and now I'm realizing it must be Windows XP.

If anyone knows of an XP forum, I would greatly appreciate the URL.

Hi Teresa,

You'll find access to all of the MS Discussion groups through
http://communities.microsoft.com

The Windows XP communities are linked through the 'ExpertZone'
as well on
http://microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone

While it's possible that this is an issue from Windows XP
Service Pack SP2 you may also want to see if you're running
into the issue described here:

Hi Bob,

Thank you very much for your help. The issue described in the link you
provided really sounded like the problem i was having. Unfortunately, it
required an XP disk in order to correct the problem. I'm beginning to think
there's no way around doing a recovery.( I'm also running into all sorts
of new issues.

Thanks again,
Teresa Taylor
