We have not been able to get the portfolio analyzer to
work either. The modeler works just fine but when we try
to run the analyzer we get an error stating that no
portfolio views have been created. When we attempt to
create the portfolio analyzer view we receive the
following error message:

"Unable to access the Microsoft Office Project Portfolio
Analyzer OLAP cube.

Possible Cause : The cube has not yet been built, or it
is currently being generated, or you do not have
permission to access the cube.
Cannot connect to the server 'msproj2003db'. The server
is either not started or too busy."

Sorry for the long message but the short of it is when
looking at the MS knowledgebase, they state that we need
to have MS Office 2003 installed before the analyzer will
work. That sounded a little strange to me but we are
still researching the problem.

By the way we have upgraded to MSP2003 and are running MS
Windows Server 2003.

I know with 2002, you needed OfficeXP to make the Office
Web Components read/write so that you can create Portfolio
Analyzer views.

My understanding is that you need Office 2003 to create
(not use) Portfolio Analyzer views in Project 2003. So,
on a machine with Off2003, open the Analyzer view in Admin
and resave. That might get it to work.

Sorry guys, you have a different problem, I can see the views I already have but I'm unable to manipulate the data, or create new views and I don't get any error messages. Can you start a different discussion for your issue? THANKS!!

L Beach, my answer still stands. The Office Web
Components are set to read only unless you have a valid
Office 2003 product installed on the desktop where you are
creating views. Without the controls set to read/write,
you can't create new views.

L Beach **Resolved**

Hi TGG:

Sorry, my frustration level had peaked. Richard's problem sounded like a server permissioning problem we had, but I'm not qualified to reply to and I didn't read far enough into your message to realize it was intended to address my problem.

We had a support ticket open with Microsoft and they were suggesting ours was a configuartion problem. During our call today they finally suggested it is the lack of having a 2003 product on the desktop and we installed one and it resolved the problem

My apologies again.

You must have a valid Office 2003 licence on the Client to edit the views.
(OWC 2003 you can use only in this case in interactive mode.)
