Unable to create the Data Analysis views on Project Server 2007

Hisham

I have Project Server 2007 installed on a single server machine under Windows
Server 2003 having SQL Server 2005 SP1. The project server is working fine at
both client and server sides. I could build the analysis cubes successfully
and the cub configuration can show the list of views without any problem.

The issue when trying to create the data analysis views under the following
path (Server Settings -> Manager Views -> New View with type "Data Analysis")
I put the server name correctly but when trying to specify the Analysis
Services Database, it returns an error: "Failed to connect to the Analysis
Services server. Verify the server name and try again".

I have read many papers so far and followed all the instructions and
permissions needed but still hanging with the error above.

The following settings have been revised and they are okay:
1- Windows authentication is used
2- Network Service account has administrator and full permissions
3- Local Intranet setting has "Access data sources across domains" enabled
4- SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services 9.0 OLE DB is installed
5- The server used is a trusted site

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Hisham.

Hisham,

I just battled this problem today and found one thing that may or may be
related to your problem. Our environment is Project Server 2007 on one
server and SQL Server 2005 on a separate box. Both servers are patched.
Both servers are part of an Active Directory environment.

I ran into the same problem when I tried to create a new Data Analysis view
from a workstation that was not part of the domain that hosts the Project
Server. I tried the same thing from a workstation that was part of the
domain hosting the Project Server and it works fine.

My hope is that the creation of the views may be restricted to workstations
in the domain, but that non-domain workstations will be able to access and
view the data in PWA. Otherwise, I will have to put all my clients in the
domain (not an ideal situation, but doable).

Both workstations were identical with the one exception is one is in the
domain and the other is not.

Hope this helps in someway.

Thanks Chuck:

I am using a standalone single box installation for the Project Server 2007;
all on the same machine using one domain. I am not using workstations in my
case, however, I guess the problem you have described is related to enabling
access across domains in the internet security options ...

I appreciate any further assitance on this

Hisham.

One way to test this is to configure IE one the Project Server host for
access to the Project server instance and see if it can access the creation
and access of Portfolio Analyzer views.

By launching IE from the application server you should not have any domain
access issues.

I would encourage making sure the application server is in your trusted
sites in IE and that you have "Access Data Across Domains" enabled even
though it is a single server install.

If it works from IE on the application server, check to see if the external
work station is in the same workgroup as the application server.

By the way - current expereinces show that I cannot access Data Analysis
views for creation or viewing without having the work station as part of the
Active Directory domain.

Again - check the Workgroup configuration for both the application server
and workstation and try IE access directly from the application server.

Hope your weekend goes well.
