Unable to default view/zoom and window size/location in Workbooktemplate

[version - Excel 2004, OS X 10.3.9]

I¹ve searched this newsgroup¹s archives and learned that saving a new
Workbook in the default startup location should very easily solve the issue
of default zoom and window size and location on the screen (as I¹m using the
large cinema display and 100% requires a magnifying glass; and a 6-page
default workbook size is excessive and blocks everything else on the screen
upon startup), however no success with this solution.

Any other suggestions (not too keen on building a VB add-in, but would if I
absolutely have to)?

Many thanks in advance for anyone¹s help :)

What do you mean by "no success"?

Assuming you have no add-ins that would change settings:

Create your workbook with the properties you want, including zoom, size
and location.

Save it *as a template* (choose "Template" in the Format dropdown in the
Save As dialog) in the

Application:Microsoft Office 2004:Office:Startup:Excel:

folder (or your alternative startup folder, if you've set one in
Preferences/General), with the name

Workbook

Note that there's no extension.

From then on, new workbooks will open with the same properties.

That's precisely what I have done, and so I don't understand why the
settings aren't sticking (used template format, no exensions, saved in the
default folder, tried creating and saving into a new alternative folder).
Tried "Workbook", "workbook", regular file, template file, default location
and defined alternative folder as mentioned. Hmmmmmm.......

Quick update - I ended up reinstalling office as I had a couple of excel
crashes (freezing upon Quit). After setting a custom location and creating
the template file, it is now working.

Thanks for the assistance!
