Unable to delete a document

This one have me stumped. Whenever I open Word 2000, instead of opening to a
new document, it opens to a document that I copied from a recipe site on line
and pasted into Word. I am unable to delete the document and each new window
I open has the same document. I have run the Microsoft virus utility and
also Norton Anti-Virus but nothing shows up. Anyone have any idea what's
going on?

Thanks for the help. I seem to be halfway there. The normal.dot file is now
free of text, yet when I open a new document in Word, the old text show up
again. At least now, I can delete the text and am left with a blank document.
That much is a definite improvement.

I suspect that I may have inadvertantly copied a template file through my
habit of copying text from the Internet and pasting into a Word document.

If you have cleared Normal.dot and are still getting text in new Blank
Documents (which are based on Normal.dot), then you must have more than one
Normal.dot, and you cleared the wrong one.
