Unable to delete header data.

(Using Visio 2000 Pro under Windows XP-2)

Several years ago I created a multi-page doc. I somehow created a
footer that included a doc name plus page number. The doc-page is only
present during printing - not on the edit screen(s). [The original
document MAY have been created under a version prior to Visio 2000.]

Now, upon editing the doc for a new client, I can't delete the original
doc+page field I created. It shows at the same place on every page
(only on printed output).

I don't have a background page.
I don't have any VB code or macros in the doc.
There are no "invisible" shapes or fields that I can find on the pages.
Nothing shows in the header/footer edit fields, but:
1. The doc+page always positions and uses the fonts specified on the
header/footer definition page.
2. If I put a shape over the location on a page, the doc+page still
prints (over the shape).
3. If I type in new text into the footer field, the old doc+page
overprints the new one I input.
4. I've tried overwriting and deleting the footer definition field
in several different ways - no help.

I've searched the web for something similar - nobody seems to have this
problem.

As a temp fix: I've set the footer margin to 11 inches, and placed my
new text in the header and specified a header margin of 10.4 inches.
That seems to "print" the old text above the page's top margin, and
uses the the header as a footer. (My head hurts!)

I don't want to individually copy the 15 pages to a new, clean document
because I have many shapes with custom colors and each one always
copies as the closest standard shade.

Any ideas???? Thanks.

You seemed to have covered all the bases.

How about saving the file as XML and search the file for the mystery footer.
Of course, the information may be based on variables so you may have to look
for "page" and hopefully come up with page number. If you do find it, the
XML tags may help indicate where the inforamtion is in the file.
