Unable to delete one item of recurring event

A couple of users are having an odd problem in Outlook 2000. They have
created a recurring event. Sometimes, they need to remove one instance of
it. When that happens, the sofware freezes and has to be shut down. When
Outlook is started, the item is still there.

Any suggestions?
