Unable to display the folder. (Additional mailbox)

T

Tom G.

We are using Exchange Server 2000 and Outlook 2003.

I have tried to add User Y's mailbox to User X's Outlook under Exchange
(open these additional mailboxes). No matter what, I keep getting a gray
screen when clicking on the Mailbox in user's Folder List with the
following error message:

"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access
the specified folder location."

I have made sure of the following:

1. User Y has given User X delegate privleges for Inbox, Calendar,
Tasks, Contacts & Notes. All privileges are set to Editor.

2. I have set the security privileges for User Y's account profile in
Active Directory so that User X has what basically amounts to full
control. I have also given User X "Send as" privileges in User Y's
account.

3. I have checked the settings per KB 839531 and they are OK.

Note that User X can open User Y's Inbox using File / Open / Other
User's folder so the privileges are working.

So why can't we get the Mailbox to open successfully in User X's
Outlook? I'm pulling my hair out over this.

I only ask because you didn't mention it. In the source users Outlook
check the perms on the Outlook Today object. That needs to be visible
and I'm not as up to date on Outlook permisions as I should be so
can't recall if you need that to open a users folder explcitly. I
don't think you do so the permissions to make the root folder visible
may not be there.

Assuming the permissions are all correct, try creating a new OUtlook
profile.

I made no changes but when we started both workstations back up his
morning, both of them could see User Y's mailbox. (Yes, I had shut down
and restarted Outlook previously.) An AD propogation issue?
