Unable to display the folder

In Outlook XP running in Windows XP Home Edition, I recently started
receiving the following error in the majority of my folders:

'Unable to display the folder. You don't have appropriate permission to
perform this operation.'

I first noticed that a number of rules which were supposed to distribute my
messages to specified folders failed to do so. Moving manually failed. When
I tried to access the folder I received the above error.

I have an extensive system of folders which are up to 4 deep. My archive
folder which has the same structure as my personal folder works fine. I have
run the Inbox Repair Tool twice. Only minor errors were found and corrected.

The problem seemed to occur in the middle of receiving messages as some were
moved to the unreadable folders and some were not. I have been using Outlook
XP for a number of years with no problems. Any suggestions?

Actually the problem doesn't seem to be in the .pst file. I moved it and all
my rules to a different computer. Everything works fine on that computer. I
am thinking about deleting and moving it back to my original system. The
only obvious difference between the systems is that the OS on my orginal
system is the Home Edition and the OS edition on the other is Professional.

I am back to normal!

I moved my entire outlook data file back to the original computer with no
success. There are still unreadable folders due to permissions. I then
reinstalled office. That worked. I did nothing to the .pst file. I'm lost
as to why, but I am happy.

I thought I had solved the problem, but it reappeared. Reinstalling or
repairing Outlook XP always works for a short while. However, at some point
when I'm downloading it seems to reappear. I think it might be when rules
are being applied. It only happens on my XP Home computer and not the XP Pro.

I looked at all the suggested links. Some might work, but I'm not keen on
paying so much for something that would probably only be used once. Any
other suggestions?

I believe the problem is fixed. I added permissions in my registry for
myself with full control. I ran 'regedit' and went to Edit & Permissions &
Add. I also went to Advanced and checked 'Inherit from parent..' and clicked
'Apply'. I don't understand it as I have administrator priviledges, but it
seemed to work. Maybe someone can explain why.
