Unable to embed control - Microsoft Map is no longer supported?

John Mitchell

When attempting to add a control to a worksheet, the string
=EMBED("MSMap.8","") appears in the edit area at the top of the Excel
screen and I get a popup message saying "Microsoft Map is no longer
supported with Microsoft Excel". This is with Excel 2002 SP 1.

I tried TOOLS -> CUSTOMIZE -> Control Toolbox -> RESET but it made no
difference. I also tried renaming Excel10.xlb in case some earlier
customisation had an effect. This also made no difference. I'm at a bit
of a loss to know what makes my corporate system any different from
those of my colleagues who don't have the same problem. Any ideas?

The Toolbox is supposed to embed the selected control (e.g. button,
combo box, etc.) but instead appears to be attempting to embed a
non-existent map so the problem is an incorrect linkage between action
and outcome. In the absence of any better idea I'll ask tech support to
reinstall Excel.
