Unable to enter data in Enterprise Custom Fields

I have defined an Enterprise Project Text field as "Requestor". It is set as
a required field. Custom attributes are set to "NONE". I do not want to
use a value list. Rather, I want a free text entry like "Joe Smith" to be
able to be placed in this field w/out a value limitation.

When I publish a project, the field appears on the "Save to Project Server"
window, but I cannot enter a value. The field displays but is not editable.

Am i missing a setting somewhere? Certainly, one must be able to have free
text entries in these custom fields?

I mistated my issue. I CAN enter data in the Text field. I CANNOT enter
data into a Enterprise Project Duration1 (Estimated Duration), Enterprise
Project Cost1 (Estimated Cost) and Enterprise Project Date1 (Intended Start
Date). The value entry area of the field is greyed out in the Project
Information window. It seems that these would be directly addressable fields
and not strictly dependent upon lookup tables.
