Unable to expand personal folder (.pst)

I open an Outlook Data File, I see the personal folder in the navigation
pane, but I am unable to expand it. It says the personal folder is too big.
This personal folder was created using Outlook 2000. I'm trying to open it
using Outlook 2003.

I understand that there was a file size limit of 2GB with Outlook 2000 and
it's 20GB with Outlook 2003. The .pst file is about 2GB. Can I just create a
new .pst file in Outlook 2003 and copy the contents of the old .pst into the
new one or is there another way to go about this?

No, that's the way to go about it, if you can still open and access the old
one. If you cannot access it, there are some tools available to deal with
it

Ultimately, you'll need to drag the contents out of the old file and drop it
into the new one...DO NOT try to import the old one. Importing a .PST VERY
often causes your Outlook profile to corrupt, plus you lose the following
information:

1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists
