Unable to find Normal.dot for Word 2000

Word 2000 will not start; sometimes it runs twice as shown in Task Manager.
Searching for Normal.dot produces NO RESULTS.

I previously had Office 2003 trial version on the computer and reverted to
Word 2000 yesterday.

Where is Normal.dot supposed to be? Why is it so complicated? Doesn't Word
make its own template every time it starts? Word will start with the /a
switch. All the options in http://support.microsoft.com/KB/259413 have been
tried without success.

Thank you for your reply. Search brings no results for Normal.dot. All the
steps in your article have been followed. No change. Most often WINWORD.EXE
opens twice.

If Word is your Outlook email editor turn that off (in Outlook) and close
Outlook. (You can reopen if you want.)

Do you have Norton AV? Adobe Acrobat Version 7? (The full program, not the
reader.)

Outlook was fine. I think it's all because of Office 2003 trial version
followed by a reversion to Office 2000 Professional. Unfortunately the
operating system began to fail after this problem owing probably to registry
problems and a large number of installed applications, and it has been
re-built. I've decided to upgrade to Office 2003. Thank you for your help.
