Unable to get global configuration data

I went to Add/Remove programs to remove WSS 2.0, then reinstalled back.
Under "Set Configuration Database Server" Page, I am getting this error
message: Unable to get global configuration data
after clicking the OK button.
I put a check mark on "Connect to existing configuration database".
The "Use SQL Authentication" was selected. I have use the "sa" account, it
did not work. How can I find out which user permission am I supposed to use?
