unable to get "paste" to function in Word 2003

Have always had rapid "paste" response to word from any
source. Now, can not get "pastezz" to function in WORD
after copying from any source other than WORD.

I have no clue what could have failed. Have tried all the
usual fixes, i.e., shutdowns, re-starts, disk cleans, turn
offs, un-plugs.

Nothing so far has re-established paste function.

Have used Word since 2000, and I am now using WORD from
Office Pro 2003, Windows XP Home Edition.
