Unable to install Beta 2 office 2007

I go to control panel to add/remove, click on Office 2007 Beta 2 version, and
click remove. When it gets about 3/4 done uninstalling I receive the
following message:
Error 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key
Unknown\.mdb\PersistentHandler It then says I need special permissions to
get into the registry.

I started doing the manual removal but when I went to remove the .msi files
in the installer folder, I went to remove the file that said Microsoft Office
Professional (beta) and I received the same error message as I received when
I tried uninstalling with the control panel add/remove software..."Error
1402. Setup cannot open the registry key UNKOWN\mdb\persistentHandler.
Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact
Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assistance. Is there anything
else I should try? or should I just keep doing everything else in the manual
removal in the hopes that it will remove the programs?

Simply keep going. Errors in the first step are to be expected.

I got to the point where it says to restart the computer. As soon as it
starts back up it tries to install Microsoft Office 2007 beta. The
instructions also talk about reinstalling the "original release version of
the 2007 office suite or program." All I want to do is go back to my
previous version of office. What do I do at this point?

Did you forget any of the folders or registry keys when you followed the
steps? That would be the reason for it trying to reinstall something.
You can just stop when it says to reinstall the release version.

Ok, I was able to remove 2007, but I also lost my previous versions, even
though its listed in control panel. I tried to reinstall office XP, but keep
getting error message 1402: Setup cannot open the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\classes\giffile\shell\open\ddeexec It asks if I
have sufficient permission to access registry... Now what do I do to regain
Office XP Pro?

I don't know. If no one else replies to help with the XP thing, start a
