unable to install office sharepoint designer

I installed the demo version of sharepoint designer. Then I un-installed it
and tried to install a licensed copy. I receive the following error

the 2007 ms office system does not support upgrading from a prerelease
version of the 2007 ms office system. you must first uninstall any
prerelease versions of the 2007 ms office system products and associated
technologies
