Unable to install office SP2

P

Penny

I am trying to install the office 2003 SP2 and am running into walls every
which way I go!!!!!!!!!!

I downloaded both the client and full versions, then found the article
906323 and downloaded and installed the updated windows installer 3.1.

I tried both the client and full versions and am still getting the error:
Installer can't find the file SKU012.cab that's needed to complete the
installation. It asks for another path to get to the source, but the problem
is there isn't one, all I've got is the executable that I downloaded from
microsoft.

So now what?

Do not use any Registry Cleaning software. Always creates a problem(s)

Try this below to fix your issue

1st Rename Office subkeys

Note: Removing the following registry keys may reset customized user
settings for your Microsoft Office programs.

1. Close all the applications.
2. Click on Start->Run, type in REGEDIT and click on OK.
3. Locate and select the following registry subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11.
5. Close the Registry Editor.

2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003

1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane.
4. Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane
and click Change.
5. Insert the correct version of CD when it requires.
6. Select "Reinstall and Repair" and click Next.
7. Select "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation".
8. Click Install and wait the process to end.

3rd. Install the Updates

I thought it was fixed, it got part way through the install and then towards
the end it said "expected version of the product was not found on your
system".

This is so frustrating!!!!! Something that ordinarily would take me 5
minutes is taking me all day!!!!

It says SP2 in outlook, which is the whole reason I needed to install it in
the first place.

When you try to start a Microsoft Office 2003 program for the first time, you receive the
"Installation Error: File not Found" error message

everything seems to be working okay right now. If I encounter this issue
with any of my users machines I will do this. Hopefully that won't be the
case.
