Unable to load update

When I retired I purchased my former work computer. the hard drive was
reformated. I installed XP home and Office 2003 professional. I downloaded
updates from MS. When I attempted to install these I got a message saying
that an earlierversion of office had been installedon this machine
(presumably my former employer's) contact the site administrator for updates.
I assume this info is in a registry key. Is there some way to overwrite this
so that I can update my legitimate copy of Office 2003?

Hi, Richard Law,

If you formatted the hard drive before installing the operating system,
there shouldn't be any reference to Office in the registry. Was XP Home
previously installed on a different machine? Did you use a system restore
or something to install it on the new machine?

Hello Susan,

On reflection I remember that I used the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard,
so this is probably the source of the problem.

Is there a way out short of re-formatting and reloading from scratch?
