Unable to mark events as Private in Entourage

Hi- For some reason, my Entourage won't let me mark events as Private. None of the events have invitees. It just appears as grayed out when I try to do it and it doesn't appear at all in the contextual menu when I "right-click" on an event.

I'm using an Intel MacBook, running Entourage 2004, version 11.4.0 on OS 10.5 Leopard.

I don't know how new this issue is. I noticed it as I was trying to get my calendar on my iPhone. Previously, I was using a smartphone with Windows Mobile up until this weekend (when my contract expired) - and I was able to get an iPhone. That Windows phone was synced with my my work Outlook account, and I used the phone and my work Outlook to manage my calendar. I never really used the calendar in Entourage since everything was on my phone. And I was able to mark events as Private on either the Windows phone or in my Outlook at work.

Don't know if this is relevant, but I turned the iCal syncing on so my appts will sync with my iPhone.

I haven't yet synced with my work Outlook account (I'll have IT help me do that in the office this week), but I want to be able to mark my personal appts as Private, so when then show up there, they are blocked from my colleagues.

Does this make sense? Sorry if it's convoluted. Does anyone know why I couldn't make a new event private?

Thanks,
Laine

Hi Laine!

You can only mark items as "Private" when using an Exchange account.
This prevents others who have access to your Exchange account via Shared
Folders or via delegation from seeing items that you don't want to share.

If you want to prevent others from viewing items in Entourage on your
computer then you need to assign a password to your Mac OS X user
account and either log out or lock your computer.

Hope this helps!

Hi Bill- Thanks for your help. So once my office Outlook calendar is synced, I should be able to mark events as Private - from my Outlook acct?

Thanks,
Laine

Hi Bill- Thanks for your help. So once my office Outlook calendar is
synced, I should be able to mark events as Private - from my Outlook
acct?

Yes, provided you are using an Exchange account. And realize that this
marks them Private only for others who access your account through their
own Exchange accounts using Shared Folders or as Delegates. This does
not mark them private to anyone who has access to your computer and
views your account while you are logged in.

Hope this helps!
