Unable to open attachments

..I have been using Outlook for about 6 years. All of a sudden I can't open
ANY attachments. I do not get an error message - when I click on the
envelope icon nothing happens. I changed my Mail Format setting by
unchecking "Let Microsoft Word be your Word Editor" as suggested in the
Knowledge Base. but that did not work.
This problem seemed to coincide with installing Windows Live One Care but
have not been able to find anything pertaining to this in Help and Support.
I would appreciate any suggestions,

Version of Outlook?
What type of attachment are we talking about here?

Your reference to the envelope icon would assume you are trying to open
msg-files. There is a know issue with the latest version of Google Desktop
which causes this. Uninstall it and try again.

Thanks for your response! Outlook vs.2003 I have delete all of the
others but I have 3 right now that are Message Files .msg.

That didn't seem to work but . . . I also recently installed Google Desktop -
is there a setting in that that I should change OR should I uninstall it?

Change it so it does not index. In Add or Remove Programs, select Google
Desktop and click Change. You should get an option to either uninstall or
stop indexing. Choose the latter.
