Unable to open data source

HI,

We've got office 10.1.5 with mac os x 10.3.4 operating in a client / server
net info environment.

Our copy of office x is local (on each workstation) and home directories are
located on the server. The issue seems to be that word when doing data
merges doesn't like to open the merge file (even file maker) and the message
unable to open data source message pops up.

Any suggestions?

Hey Bobby,

Office X for the Mac is not compatible with remote home directories. So this
particular problem might be a result of that.

I would recommend logging in locally to your Mac, (So that Office uses the
User folders locally on the machine) and see if you can perform a successful
Data Merge, that way.

Thanks Jeffery,

I found that if you mount the home directory onto the desktop, it seems to
work fine!

Is there ever going to be a fix or workaround for it? I've found that office
app's unexpectedly quit more often in this environment.

Seems like a waste

Yes actually!

There have been substantial improvements to this in the new Office 2004.

You could try downloading the Trail Version, and see if you notice a
difference.
