Unable to Open Documents Created on PC

Out of the blue I cannot open any word documents (.doc) that were created on
a PC. I get an icon that has the IE logo and Parallels logo and every time I
try to open the document it forces me to boot up Windows using Parallels.
I can get rid of the problem if I drag the file to my desktop, copy it, and
rename it, but obviously that is a tremendous annoyance.

All software is up-to-date (Mac and Office).
I have repaired permissions.

My thinking is that for some reason those documents are not recognizing that
I have Word:Mac installed.

Oh, and I'm running Leopard with the 2004 version of office.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm working on my dissertation and am
wit's end!

First - documents don't recognize applications.

Instead, when you doule click a file icon, the Finder uses its
application database to determine what application to use (I'm assuming
you can open the documents using File/Open in Word).

Select one of the .doc documents. Type CMD-i. In the Info dialog's 'Open
with:' pane, select Microsoft Word from the dropdown and click Change
All.

The Finder should now know how to open your .docs.

Thank you so much for the help!!!! It does appear to be working. Puzzling how
that just randomly changed one day.
