Unable to open excel 2003 files in 2007

I am unable to open some Excel 2003 files in Excel 2007.
I often get the following error messages:
FILE ERROR: data may heve been lost. or

Excel found unreadable content in ________. Do you want to recover the
contents
of this workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click yes.
If I click yes, This message appears:

Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable
content.

The workbook that then opens is missing most data.

I have verified that these files open properly on a machine running Excel
2003.

Any resolution would be appreciated!

Thanks

I have had this error, and MS wasn't as helpful as it could have been.

Root cause seems to be when functions such as EDATE or EOMONTH, or other
calendar add-ins are used. Open the xls in 2007, and save it more than 3
times with compatability mode, and functions are corrupted (usually replaced
by #NAME in the formula, not just the result). MS solution is to save the
file as an xlsx, and have the other users download the viewer for their 2003
excel instances.

Other option is to do a longer formula (possible, but increases formula
size), and this seems to be ok.

Final option is to only use 2003. This may or may not be an option for you.

Hope this helps.
